East to West

My wife posted this song on her blog and I really liked it. It is by Casting Crowns and it describes very well the roller coaster ride we sometimes take between faith and feelings. I thought I would share it with you.

Here I am Lord,
And I'm drowning
In your sea of forgetfulness
The chains of yesterday surround me
I yearn for peace and rest
I don’t want to end up where you found me
And it echoes in my mind,
Keeps me awake tonight

I know you cast my sin as far as the east is from the west
And I stand before you now as,
As though I've never sinned
But today I feel like I'm just one mistake away
From you leaving me this way

Jesus can you show me
Just how far the east is from the west
Cause I can't bear to see the man I've been
Rising up in me again
In the arms of your mercy I find rest,
Cause you know just how far the East is from the West
From one scarred hand to the other.

I start the day the war begins
Endless reminding of my sin
And time and time again your truth is drowned out
By the storm I'm in
Today I feel like I'm just one mistake away,
From you leaving me this way

Jesus can you show me,
Just how far the East is from the West
Cause I can't bear to see the man I've been
Come rising up in me again
In the arms of your mercy I find rest
'cause you know
Just how far the East is form the West
From one scarred hand to the other.

I know you've washed me white,
Turned my darkness into light
I need your peace to get me through,
To get me through this night
Can’t live by what I feel
But by the Truth your work reveals,
I'm not holding on to you
But you're holding on to me,
You’re holding on to me

Jesus you know
Just how far the East is from the West
I don't have to see the man I've been,
Come rising up in me again
In the arms of your mercy I find rest
'cause you know just how far the East is form the West,
From one scarred hand to the other.

Just how far
The east is from the west

From one scarred hand to the other

I was just going through this! Amazing song. Thanks much for posting.

Man, I tell you...I had countless sins I committed pointed out to me as I was on the phone with a close friend. We easily forget. If I were to have my eyes on my self, I would drown in condemnation and hopelessness. It was pointed out to me by those silent voices that while I was on the phone, I intentionally didn't say God while a neighbor of mine walked by, because she might think I was weird.

It's so amazing to be refreshed with grace. It's like coming from a dry desert after days without water, to an oasis with streams of sparkling water.

I forget almost instantly. No wonder we're likened to sheep!

You're welcome! You came to my mind when I posted it.

You are right, we are all like sheep so easily led astray, but we are blessed to have a shepherd who will come after us, snatch us out of the mud, place us on His shoulders, and carry us home to safety and rest. There is a song I like by Audio Adrenaline that speaks of this, it's called "Leaving Ninety-nine." You can probably find it on YouTube if you haven't already heard it.

Absolutely!

It is a good song, although I prefer their "Lifesong" one to "East To West". About the only Christian band I can stand! :-)

Judah,

Lifesong is good. Casting Crowns is one of my favorite bands. There has been very little they have done that I haven't liked.
